To inspire young people in Hong Kong and strengthen their knowledge of aerospace technology, the first Hong Kong Youth Aerospace Innovation Competition was held in 2022. This landmark event also served as the Hong Kong regional selection for the National Youth Aerospace Innovation Competition in China.
In January 2022, the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association was commissioned by the Secretariat of the National Youth Aerospace Innovation Competition Organising Committee – China Aerospace Science and Technology International Exchange Center – to organise and host the Hong Kong selection. The competition covered promotion, registration, training, judging, and an award ceremony.
From this event, outstanding student projects were selected to form the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Representative Team, which participated in the national finals in Beijing in July 2022. The Hong Kong award ceremony was also held to celebrate the achievements of local students.
The competition aimed not only to enhance aerospace literacy among Hong Kong youth, but also to provide them with opportunities to engage with a nationwide innovation platform, nurturing talent to contribute to the development of China’s aerospace industry and to the vision of building an innovative nation.
As a recognition of its significance, the competition was also included in the official program celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return to the Motherland.
